MOOT RECORDS

Electronic dance act, Rendezvous, got in touch after seeing the series of promos we made for Faithless. The guys were really taken with the surreal, psychedelic feel of our Faithless work and wanted something as bright and colourful. We were keen to create something with a different vibe, so came up with the story of a traumatized robot, his lonely planet and a journey of catharsis and healing. Do robots have emotions? Maybe one day...

STYLEFRAMES

Originally we drew inspiration from the vibrant design of old tin robots, which the band didn’t like. We then created some more modern, robot designs, inspired by the likes of Honda Asimo and Marvin from the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy movie.

PROCESS

In order to give the animation it’s own unique character, we didn’t rig the robot’s whole body. We kept the feet locked, so it could only move in tiny steps. Family films from the 1940’s, became our reference for the robot’s parents. The exaggerated body language and locked feet, created quite a comedic effect.
